About the Welsh Terrier Club of America
The Welsh Terrier Club of America was founded in 1900 as a member club of the American Kennel Club. Through various programs and publications, the WTCA strives to educate dog enthusiasts and the general public about all aspects of the Welsh Terrier, and to fund important areas such as health research. The WTCA holds a conformation specialty show at the Montgomery County Kennel Club All-Terrier Show every October, and a floating specialty show at a different venue every year. Members receive the quarterly Welsh WAG newsletter and an annual WTCA Yearbook. The club also supports WTCares, a nationwide rescue service for Welsh Terriers.
The AKC awarded the Welsh Terrier Club of America the 2024 Eddy Award for providing outstanding breeder education materials to its members and new breeders. Follow this link to learn more about the Award.
WTCA Mission
- To encourage and promote quality in the breeding of pure-bred Welsh Terriers and to do all possible to bring their natural working qualities to perfection
- To urge members and breeders to accept the Standard of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which Welsh Terriers shall be judged
- To do all in its power to protect and advance the interests of the breed and to encourage sportsmanlike competition at dog shows and any other event for which the club is eligible under the rules and regulations of The American Kennel Club
- To conduct sanctioned matches, specialty shows, and any other event for which the club is eligible under the rules and regulations of The American Kennel Club
- To encourage the organization of independent local Welsh Terrier Specialty Clubs in those localities where there are sufficient fanciers of the breed to meet the requirements of The American Kennel Club
