About the Club
The Welsh Terrier Club of Southern California is the oldest regional Welsh club in the US, formed as the Welsh Terrier Breeders Club of Southern California in 1934 in Los Angeles. The club was reorganized in 1947 by Mr. Francis Van Hartesveldt (Vanhill Kennel), he worked for the LA Times. The word breeders was dropped from the name then but the club had many local breeders. Mr. & Mrs. Frank Bilger (Reglib), Robert and Alice Masson (Montrose- one of the founders of Great Western Terrier Specialties), Mr. & Mrs. Charles Marck (Chancrest), Ted and Dorothy Von Hemert (Tremehnov), Jack Kimmel and Jim Edwards (Tujays), Robin and June Dutcher (Coppercrest), and John and Elizabeth Tebbetts (Johnel).
The objectives of the club are in our constitution;
- To encourage and promote quality in the breeding of pure-bred Welsh Terriers and to do all possible to bring their natural working qualities to perfection;
- To encourage members and breeders to accept the standard of the breed as approved by the American Kennel Club as the only standard of excellence by which Welsh Terriers shall be judged;
- To do all in its power to educate the general public, and protect and advance the interests of the breed and to encourage sportsmanlike competition at any American Kennel Club Event or Club function;
- To conduct sanctioned and licensed specialty shows, earthdog tests, and other performance events for which the breed is eligible under the rules and regulations of The American Kennel Club.

Membership
We are a not-for-profit AKC membership organization dedicated to Welsh Terriers. Our members are located all over California but primarily in the southern-eastern area of Orange, Riverside and San Diego counties. Of our 35-40 members, 15 are also WTCA members. We have a few out of state members that have been members for a long time with us.
We offer members education, training, a personal club website with lots of info on Welsh Terrier care, health, grooming and training. In addition at our meetings we do training for Conformation, Earth Dog, Barn Hunt, Scentwork, Tracking, FITDOG AKC, Canine Good Citizen, Obedience and Rally. We also support a social group that does Welshie walks, sometimes with other terrier breeds. Come have fun with experienced Welshie owners who want to make having a Welsh Terrier the best thing ever!
